Immigration Certificates

The Government Emigration Agent for British Guiana issued these certificates in India. They give summary particulars of the emigrant and certify his or her physical fitness and willingness to work in British Guiana. They are arranged and listed in date order under the name of the ship in which the emigrant was transported to British Guiana.

Ship Register

These provide name of ship year of arrival, the names of Immigrants, plantations assigned , they contain the same information as the certificates.

Immigration department, Birth Registers

These registers provide summary details for certain years of immigrants to British Guiana and of births registered among the immigrants population. There is also a register of unclaimed balances in respect of the estates of immigrants who died on estates.

Immigration Department: Letter Books

These are entry books of out letters, most of which have their own indexes. They are arranged and listed in date order. Annual reports of the Immigration Agent General and other reports, etc on immigration generally.
